On sound foundations you can go on building, for generations. After twenty years this house was given an upgrade into a new era – with plenty of authentic materials and first-class craftsmanship. But also, and most importantly, with a more austere line and a great deal of space for modern art. Such as this striking blue work by Bram Bogart, master of the Informal Art of the 1950s, which lends character to the whole living room with its strong colour and structure. That the work hangs just above a classic mantelpiece gives it all the more power.
